Atiya Pitaktrakul
Global Learning Medallion
My name is Atiya Pitaktrakul and I am currently a senior at Florida International University (FIU) pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Public Relations, Advertising, and Applied Communications with a Minor in Hospitality Studies. I' am a part of several involvements at FIU that include being a part of the BOLD Communication Agency as well as the Global Learning Student Board. I also work in the College of Communication, Architecture, and The Arts (CARTA) Dean's Office, where I work as a Public Relations Intern. I aspire to one day work as an Account Manager within an Ad Agency where I can create campaigns that can create change, amplify underrepresented voices in media, and do more than just sell a product. Recently, I was selected to be a 2022 MAIP (Multicultural, Advertising, Internship, Program) Fellow under the 4a's Foundation. I will be working with the Ad Council through their New York City office this summer as an Account Management.

Originally, my family is from Thailand but came to the United States for better opportunities. My family opened up a Thai restaurant in Davie, FL that is still around even after 32 years. Growing up, my parents made sure I was always immersed in Thai Culture, whether that be through the language, the customs and traditions, and especially the food. My fascination with my own culture and sharing it with others sparked my love/curiosity to learn about other cultures. I've always been a curious person, and I'll never stop being curious because to be curious as to be willing to learn. My goal is to one day land a career where I never have to stop learning.

When I'm not studying or working, you can find me with my cat, my crochet hooks and yarn, or reading. I love traveling to new places, talking with others about their culture and perspectives on the world, and I love trying new cuisines from around the world. I also have a passion for conservation, sustainability, and learning about biodiversity.
